Wild Folk and the illuminating Alchemy of Glass with Tamsin Abbott

Stained glass artist Tamsin Abbott, shares her personal inspirations and techniques behind her enchanting work, with a particular focus on the making of Wild Folk, her book created with Jackie Morris. Discover how folklore, landscape and fairytale are transformed into luminous stained glass through painting, sgraffito and engraving. Tamsin will offer a fascinating insight into her creative process and the magic of this unique medium.

David Evans: The Use of Published Prints for His Designs with Jeff Hopewell

Canon Jeff Hopewell explores how David Evans drew on existing artworks for his stained glass designs, a practice widely accepted in the late Georgian and early Victorian periods. More than 67 sources have been identified, ranging from celebrated masterpieces to lesser-known works spanning four centuries. The talk considers how these artworks were adapted for glass and what they reveal about Evans’s artistic methods and influences.

The Life and Work of Trena Cox (1895 – 1980) with Aleta Doran


This talk, given by artist and researcher, Aleta Doran, will explore the career of Chester-based twentieth-century stained glass artist Trena Cox. It will explore the circumstances in Cheshire in the first half of the twentieth century which enabled Cox to establish her career and construct her professional identity. The talk will also reflect on the evolution of Cox’s work over the course of a career spanning almost fifty years.

The Talks

This talk will be delivered by Zoom. Talks typically last around 45 minutes, with time for questions with the speaker afterwards. The link will be emailed to ticket holders prior to the event. A link will be shared after the event, so those not able to join us live, can still attend.
