Collection: James Cockerill

James Cockerill creates bold, graphic works that mash pop-culture imagery with the timeless optical effects achieved when light streams through coloured glass.

From his studio in Surrey, James' art practice is constantly evolving through experimentation, with photography and silkscreen printing providing the foundation for his creative exploration. Layers of often ephemeral images from life and from media are printed onto glass then kiln fired into permanence. Collaging allows James to reinterpret the images he collects, revealing new meaning in their juxtaposition. The layers of time and memory that imprint on our physical and psychological landscapes are a recurring theme.

James is a First Prize winner of the prestigious Stevens Architectural Glass Artist of the Year Award. He is a Fine Art graduate and founder of HALTglass, through which he designs, makes, teaches and provides consultancy on glass and print.
