This window transfer features a design taken from our Museum collection.
'St Adelaide' is a stained glass window designed by Kehinde Wiley. Wiley is an American artist known for his epic portraiture; in 2018 he was chosen to paint the official presidential portrait of Barack Obama. Throughout his work, Wiley explores representation. He often works with images from art history but restages them to display underlying meanings or omissions. He composed 'St Adelaide' as a restaging of a stained glass window designed by the French painter Ingres which was installed in a Parisian chapel in 1843. By depicting the subject as a black man in contemporary clothing, Wiley's 'St Adelaide' poses questions about identity and how meaning is attributed to image through western culture as a whole.
Window transfers fix to a surface by static, are fully repositionable and leave no residue - just peel off the backing sheet and smooth on to a clean dry window.
