This ticket admits 1 participant to the workshop. Suitable for ages: 7+
As part of Ely Arts Festival we are offering you the opportunity to make a fused glass rainbow stick to bring colour and joy to your home. In this unique workshop session you will create a 3cm x 15cm hanging decoration using a wide range of stunning glass. Come and get creative with a friend or bring your children for family time together. (Children under 16 doing the activity solo must have an adult to accompany them) You will begin by learning the principles and theory of glass cutting, fusing and firing. After this you will be taught how to cut the glass and try cutting the glass yourself. Other techniques you will be introduced to will include fusing clear and coloured glass using fritt, confetti, stringers and noodles. This relaxing, fun session is suitable for beginners and anyone over 7 years old.
Your glass will need to be kiln-fired after the workshop is finished so you will NOT be taking your glass home on the day of the session. Each firing takes 24 hours. Once your fused artwork has been kiln-fired and cooled, we will contact you to let you know it is ready for collection. This will usually be within a week of completing the workshop.
Please note: The Museum is located on an upper level of the Grade-I listed medieval Ely Cathedral. The entrance to the museum is via a spiral stone staircase of 40 steps from the south-west transept of Ely Cathedral. The stairs are fitted with a handrail. Unfortunately, there is no lift access to the Museum. The toilets are quite a hike from the museum, situated near the Lady Chapel in the Cathedral, so it’s advised that young people go to the toilet before the session begins.
