‘Before and After the Pre-Raphaelites’ - Cambridge Study Day
Join us for a Study Day in Cambridge on Wednesday 10 February 2027 from 10:30-16:00.
The day will begin with an Introduction by Dr Karen Livingstone, Curator, to the ‘A Call to Art: William Morris and the Pre-Raphaelites’ Exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, for which The Stained Glass Museum lent two works, one of which is here displayed to the public for the first time. Our group will have time to see this exhibition which has had glowing reviews "so much beauty, it’s exhausting" – The Times and shines a particular spotlight on the Fitzwilliam’s Victorian and Pre-Raphaelite paper collections which have been rarely studied or displayed before.
This will be followed by a guided walking tour led by Dr Jasmine Allen to explore the variety of stained glass produced in the 19th and 20th century as seen in some of the city’s churches and chapels, including other examples by Morris & Co. at Jesus College (where we will also meet Laura Dennis, Assistant Curator, and see an exhibition on Victorian art and design in the college collections), as well as works by their predecessors working in both a pictorial and gothic revival style, and Arts and Crafts successors including Douglas Strachan and Rachel Tancock.
Ahead of the event, delegates will receive a full itinerary, together with short site notes.
