This survey records all stained glass existing today in Suffolk churches. An alphabetical Gazetteer of Places describes the glass remaining in each of the 543 churches. This reveals that the nineteenth century was by far the most prolific period in history, producing more than 1300 windows in Suffolk alone, most of which remain today. The great nineteenth century output of stained glass windows is analysed in a Directory of Firms and Designers, which records the locations of each firm's works in the county and gives some account of their respective developments in the context of their time. A final Section presents an assessment of the oeuvre of the local glass painters, both professional and amateur, whose works until now have been practically unknown.

Over 400 illustrations are included - the majority on colour microfiches, a method of presentation which at last does justice to the medium.

This is a second-hand out-of-print book. All proceeds go directly to supporting the only museum of stained glass in the UK.
