October Half Term Crafts - Glass Fusing for Beginners
This ticket admits 1 child (who must be accompanied by an adult). Space is limited in the workshop so we ask that ONLY ONE parent/carer accompanies child for the duration of the workshop. Suitable for ages: 7+
In this unique session you will begin by learning the principles and theory of glass cutting, fusing and firing. After this you will be taught how to cut the glass and try cutting the glass yourself. Other techniques you will be introduced to will include fusing clear and coloured glass using fritt, confetti, stringers and noodles. You will get to work on your design and make a 10cm x 10cm glass piece. The session leader will provide examples of the different techniques, processes, fittings and results for you to handle and examine, but the emphasis of the workshop will be on the creative designs that you can achieve by yourselves, ensuring that everyone will have a rewarding time. Your glass will need to be kiln-fired after the workshop is finished so you will NOT be taking your glass home on the day of the session. each firing takes 24hours. Once your fused artwork has been kiln-fired and cooled, we will contact you to let you know it is ready for collection. This will usually be within a week of completing the workshop.
Please note: The Museum is located on an upper level of the Grade-I listed medieval Ely Cathedral. The entrance to the museum is via a spiral stone staircase of 40 steps from the south-west transept of Ely Cathedral. The stairs are fitted with a handrail. Unfortunately, there is no lift access to the Museum. The toilets are quite a hike from the museum, situated near the Lady Chapel in the Cathedral, so it’s advised that young people go to the toilet before the session begins.
